Bollywood news, tracking the stars and their journey through time

The Bollywood news media has been at a unique perch, watching over all the various developments over time. They have been privy to affairs, celebrations, holiday jaunts and all the myriad shenanigans that are a part of this eclectic industry. These days, they are busy playing quiet audiences to a whole new ensemble of stars.

It doesn't matter what nationality you are or the region you call home. Nor would it matter if you pine for the releases at the box office every week or not. All that is need is a wee bit of awareness about the phenomenon called motion pictures and should be clued in to technological advancements in general. This’ll be enough to ensure that you are aware of the fact that there are only a handful of players that command the kind of respect that is required to succeed on the world scene.

The foremost leader, so-to-speak, is the North American Market and the movie behemoth called Hollywood. Characterized by large studios and mega-budgets that would match the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of a small country or two, the productions here are of the grandest scale possible. But halfway around the world lays India, a nation whose prowess in motion pictures has been shining bright for over a century now.

Bollywood as it is fondly referred to, has managed to carve out an identity that is as distinct as they come. Take the male lead for example, a heartthrob beyond par, the stars that have essayed this role over the decades have been as varied as they come. Their traits, both physical as well as the ones they portrayed on-screen, have undergone a metamorphosis that would have been unthinkable by many. The angry young man, the romantic, happy-go-lucky types, broody method-actors - they’ve all come and made their mark here. Reams and reams of print have been dedicated by the Bollywood news industry towards reporting their every move. But it has been the female characters that continue to make a splash here, in the industry.

From being cooped up indoors, living within the boundary of the four walls of her home, actresses of the time were putting up a honest portrayal of the ethos and social mores of the time. Women right up till the eighties were depicted in typically submissive roles, dependent upon the men around them – from the lead actor to the grey characters to lend credibility to their performances. The two decades between the eighties and the nineties marked a coming out period of sorts that had them experimenting with stronger character depictions. The women were really starting to break free from all the pigeon-holing and push the boundaries of their roles.

It has been the Bollywood news media that has been at a unique perch, watching over all the various developments over time. They have been privy to affairs, celebrations, holiday jaunts and all the myriad shenanigans that are a part of this eclectic industry. These days, they are busy playing quiet audiences to a whole new ensemble of stars. These are people who are not afraid to explore the limits of their performance envelope, experimenting and embracing the darker shades of human nature.

This is why; one has been getting to watch a whole new breed of film makers plying their craft and offering movies that closely depict the alternate realities of life around them. From exploring the angst around them, to the anonymity and loss of identity of real life, every story is worth a movie these days!
